Do you have any oil mist/leakage on the engine cover near the fill tube? Take the oil cap off and check the rubber O-ring on the cap... does it show any signs of stress or deterioration? Do you have any other indications of leaking oil seals such as on the valve covers or front cover (timing chain cover)?

Filter screens or the very fine oil passages in the phasers themselves likely clogged/sludged, slowing oil flow at startup causing the rattle. Try the flush procedures I've outlined previously (you can even leave the SeaFoam in a fresh oil change and run it for a few thousand km provided you monitor oil level and color.)
Before anyone jumps on the "oil color doesn't indicate condition of the oil", it is partially correct. Dark oil doesn't necessarily indicate used oil which is no longer providing wear protection but it is a good way to monitor contamination of the oil (oxidation and particles held in suspension.) Running SeaFoam in fresh engine oil will accelerate the accumulation of particles and will turn th oil black rather quickly. If you have never flushed your engine I would suggest you do the pre-service procedure just before your oil change, then run it with SeaFoam in the fresh oil for 4000-5000km or change sooner if the condition of your oil indicates otherwise.

Replaced my pre cat O2 sensors tonight and drivers side was full of soot...passenger side clean. Could this have any relation to the rattle at all? Obviously the ECU was dumping tons of fuel into the drivers side. Could all that fuel end up in the oil, thinning it? And accelerating wear on that side? Truck is running way better now but we'll see what happens after a couple hundred miles.
