It all depends on your situation and how much time and money you are willing to waste. I put up with all the same **** huntinrig did for over a year and after exact outcome every time I decided this is enough and traded it in before it got any worse.
Yes, I invested a lot of time. It's nice to go out in the morning and not cringe at the noise.

I would of boycotted ford and went to another brand if the other brands had a better truck but know body did and I LOVED my truck so I just got the same one pretty much but with the 5.0. I got it for 41,000 from 58,000 and the 26,000 for my 2011 with 112,000kms That's good enough for me.
Hence my problem. I've never owned anything else. I f-ing hate Ford right now for this. They suck but I am only human and am going back to what I know and understand. It looks like you got a better deal than me I think but we're fairly close when you factor in the tax differences (we pay 12%) and the difference in Alberta pricing to here.

I wasn't wasting anymore of my time and family and work time with that the Ecoboost. I can alwaysake more money bit time is a lot more valuable and I can't make more time.
Because the build date on the truck was after the affected range in the TSB (by 4 days) and it was new I felt comfortable getting another ecomonster.

I think the right oil/filter and service intervals from day ONE is key to this issue, or seems to be from others observations.

I'm thinking this new truck is going to get you back to where your supposed to be in life without the constant headache of dealerships wasting your time. I'm sincerely releived and so happy for you. I can only wish that others were able to do the same and just give these lemons back to ford. In the meanwhile I'm going to go enjoy life again with my new one that allowed me the freedom and peace of mind I originally needed.all the best to you guys and gals

Yup, just going to drive the snot out of mine now and wait for it to blow up.

Should be interesting but I'm not going to sit and worry bout it too much. I'll deal with it when it comes!

Default New Vehicle

So I basically have decided to get rid of my truck and the dealership has offered to accept it on a trade in. Over all a really good deal.

One problem. The truck I want was built on 04/10/14. 6 days before the TSB ended on 10/10/14.

Should I stay away?

I can tell you that my 2011 was fixed with the updated chain part and the noise came right back (no tensioner replaced). So it was definitely something more than the chain causing the issue. But my truck had 64,000km with the previous owner that I couldn't account for.

I think if you properly maintain the truck from day one with full synthetic oil, ford filters and 5000-7000km intervals you'll probably be happy. I would get an ESP though. I'll be getting one on this truck.

I would have to disagree with you on that one. My 2013 that I just purchased in May of 2014 had 20 miles on it when I bought it, and I changed the oil every 3-4k miles on it using Penzoil Platinum Full Synthetic and a high quality oil filter. My truck started making the chain rattle noise at 13k and it is still doing it after 2 more oil changes at 19k.

I believe the underlying issue is the fuel dilution these trucks are experiencing, that and some unknown reason for stretching the timing chains over time causes the rattle on a cold start when the oil pressure has bled down, meaning no matter the type of oil you use your truck will have this problem eventually.

I don't care if you change your oil every 1k, if the chain is stretching and the oil is becoming thinner due to fuel being introduced then you are going to get wear and tear on the chain, simple as that.

The oil filter may have also been a factor. A member or two had mentioned they had the noise until they went back to the factory filter. I don't know what the difference would be but that is what they claimed. Something to consider.

But fuel dilution probably contributes to it. And destroying other parts of the engine in the long run.

And honestly who knows, it could have been a bad batch of tensioner a from who knows where for all that we know.

Damn... 13,000 miles it started? There is another '13 up here in Canada that had the same thing on 2013 "DCFluid" I think is his name. No idea what he was using for oil.

I definitely believe the fuel dilution is a problem and I think the idea that the HPFP is putting unnecessary stress on the timing chain is close too.

The best thing you can do for any ecoboost of any year is get a Rx catch can installed. You will be amazed at what its collecting for you. Only Rx though with the clean side seperator. Look up rev extreme. Best 500 bucks you can spend on preventative maintenance.

LOL. TunerBoost, is that you? Plenty of Ecoboosts out there since late 2009 withouth the cans running 100%.

As far as the fuel dilution, if you think you have one, get an oil analysis done. The only true way to know what's in YOUR oil. The sniff test is wildly inaccurate. If you have a 2013 and think you have an issue, you may - there were a rash of leaking HPFP's reported hear last year around this time so a dealer visit may be in order.
