Default 2011 Ecoboost Diesel

For the last six months or so about 2/3 times a week when I start my truck it sounds like a diesel starting. I have taken it to the dealership and their answer was the timing chain and it's components. well $1800 later it still does it. Anyone had this happen or any ideas? Thanks.

The location of the vacuum pump is lousy. In fact, Ford did a design change to make it a cam driven. The original part is plastic, electrically driven, and had a terrible problem with corrosion. Some owners lost all vacuum causing braking issues. Follow the thread posted above for help. Also, do a search on YouTube as there are a couple of videos showing where it's located and the specific problem.

Another source of 'clacking' noise is the HPFP.

It appears the chain is also taking the cam phasers. Passenger side is the first to go, followed by the drivers side shortly there after. Ford has a 2 year repair warranty, so you need to go back and have them replace BOTH phasers.

Interesting you say passenger side goes first. Monitoring that side mine is very lean at idle and that o2 had zero soot on it. Still looking at doing the solenoids on that side first myself, then most likely back to the dealer and I can try to deal with them as I pleaded with them to replace everything that was necessary because I was paying for it and I didn't want to have to pay to have the engine opened up again.
