I slopped some RTV around the leaky O-ring and so far so good, no loss of coolant. *knockonwood

My leak was at the upper hose and T / Y connector (DR3Z8566A). Like most, it happened after we had some cold temps; 20 degrees give or take 5 degrees over a long period of time.

I replaced the upper hose vs just the o-ring inside the upper hose, but can't get my hands on the T / Y connector. I've been told it's on back order until end of February. The shop the truck is at found some Fords that have it, but won't sell it.

Been looking online, so far 1 order failed and am waiting to see if the 2nd order ships.

Anyone else been able to find the Y connector online?

Default My Leakin' Turn

Advice please!

I got the leak, at the crappy Ford fitting at the reservoir tank. Right now I plan to buy the Pegasus kit and make the fix. But from what I have been reading, is it safe to say that if you fix one leak, the pressure moves to another fitting (T/Y connector) and eventually that location will need to be fixed as well?

I am just wondering if while I am making the Pegasus fix and have everything apart if I should just buy everything and change out all the O-rings, hoses, and fittings throughout the entire coolant system that everyone has been discussing.

I already know that as soon as I make the Pegasus fix to the overflow jug that another leak is going to pop up elsewhere, at the T Connector for example.

Let me know what you guys think and if anyone else has been chasing leaks around after the initial fix. Or, if you think making the Pegasus fix will be good enough. Thanks!!

If you're worried about it, I would make sure you can get your hands on the Y connector - I had to source mine online. $55 ish.

Has it been cold there? That seems to play a huge part in the Y connector leak. I was leak free until we had a week or so of 15-20 degree weather with the high being something like 30.

I opted to replace my hoses simply because I'm "close" to 100k and planned on doing it anyway. My coolant is also possibly 5 years old so while empty had them do the lower hose. The heater hoses aren't leaking and aren't too soft so I left those alone.

For me it looks like the thermostat side connection is the trouble maker, so you might want to get a new "4 mm thick * 31 mm inner diameter" O-Ring and give it a try in your Y connector. The thing is that you might get a new leak on the upper radiator hose side as you're working on the Y connector so it might be a very good thing to get the "4 mm thick * 37 mm inner diameter" (Motorcraft P/N 1073) O-Ring too to replace the worn out one on that side, and your Y Connector leaking issue will be sorted out for sure. Until the new O-Rings will worn out enough to give you a new leak, general issue for all of us.

I would just partially drain the coolant liquid and get the "Pegasus Fix" done. Eventually I'd get some 4 mm thick * 31&37 mm inner diameter O-Rings just to have them on stock but I wouldn't deal with the Y connector as there's no leak on it yet. The thing with these rapid connectors is that they're not a trustful solution even as new parts, you know what I mean, so if they don't harm in any way, I would just not touch them for the time being.

Add me to the list of folks waiting for the Upper Radiator hose. I dropped my truck off on Jan. 13. Dealer says today MAYBE have the part by Feb. 10. Ford Premium Care extended warranty says this part isn't covered since it is a "wear item". Seems that a wear item for the number one light truck in America wouldn't sideline a truck for over a month. Bummer of a first post.

For the upper radiator hose connection with the Y part you may opt out for the O-Ring replacement only, as detailed in the previous posts. Motorcraft part number RTS1073. Might be easily available than the entire hose. Except if the condition of this last one requires replacement. Good luck.

I don't think the upper hose is hard to get your hands on. Plenty of online sources if your dealer doesn't have one. I opted for the upper hose replacement because I'm nearing 100k and the truck is 6 years old with softish hoses.

The Y connector is back ordered until "end of February." Again though, you could source it online with a bit more research/calling around. Local dealers wouldn't sell me one, even though they had them.

This is making my "spare" Y Pipe look pretty valuable right now! I wonder if the dealers in Canada are feeling the same supply shortage.
