IMO, that's a lot of cost and effort to go from what would've been a 4.86 (which most people would find more-than-adequate) to what would've been a 5.47 with the old tranny.

I'll be waiting patiently for your review as I've been seriously contemplating this upgrade on my 5.0 3.31 screw! IMO the people that say "its not worth the cost" or you "shouldn't feel that much difference" haven't lived with a 3.31 on this motor/trans combo. It's literally a dead dog off the line! Throw in the stock 20's on a 32" tire and well...grandmas in hondas are pulling lights on you.

How did you get a 4x4 with a 3.31? Didn't know they offered that.

That's what I hope for. I bought the SCT BEFORE the axle ratio change and I asked Mike from 5 Star to use 3.73 ratio in his tunes. So I can't wait to push on the gas pedal of the all-new F-150 and take it for a spin. If only I could find a trucking load from the darn Arizona. I'm stuck in Kingman with my semi

My feelings exactly! The 6 speed tranny that shifts into 5th at 50 km/h (30 mph) doesn't help much either. SCT TUNE + 3.73 = FUN!

I have 3.73's stock and without even giving it gas like 1750 rpm and below I pull away from everyone at the stop lights. I think mainly the 6speed, but a little because of the gears. Acceleration is really smooth and quick. Also with your wheels and tires it will make it feel way better.

Are you saying that the rear end ratio only affects first gear ,2 to 6 ratio stay the same no matter what rear end you have

Thanks for your help
I'm saying that with the new 6 speed tranny, the 3.31 gear gives you the same 1st gear overall ratio as the old 4 speed with a 4.86 gear, which isn't so bad.

The part that's a little harder to understand is what happens once you shift out of 1st. With the shorter rear gear (3.73), you'll have to shift out of 1st sooner, so you actually have a worse overall ratio when you're in 2nd and the 3.31 truck would still be in first. As you go through the gears, the acceleration advantage switches back and forth, depending on what gear which truck is in and the overall ratio at the time. So, it does affect the gear ratio in all gears, but it's not necessarily an advantage. Clear as mud?

Not a 4x4, an FX2. Wish I would've paid closer attention to the gearing on this truck before I bought it. Still an awesome truck though!

Oh ok, I assumed when you said 32" tire that it was a 4x4.

Then why does ford offer 3.55 and 3.73 and even 4.10 gears?

Looking forward to the review on your new gears+tune!
