2011 5.0 knock and check engine light
Hello just bought an 2011 f150 5.0 with around 58000 miles on it. I had it about for a week and noticed a knock in the motor. I looked up on here and there seems to be a lot of threads on this. I took it to the dealer and they did the cam tensioner tsb on it(took them 3 days). It still knocks. I kind of figured it would because the noise sounds internal. Today the check engine light came on. I am going back to the dealer ASAP. I've got not much time left on the warranty so hopefully they figure this out before it expires or else I'm talking a loss and trading it in ASAP. Has anyone else had experience with this... Doing the tsb, still knocking and then having it trough a code?? I'm kinda glad the check engine light came on hopefully they won't say it's normal. Super worried the warranty is going to expire and I'm on the hook for this.

Just got back from the dealership. The code turned out to be an evap code not related to the knock. As for the knock... turns out the motor is NFG. Dealer said they'd replace it with a new motor under warranty. Mixed feelings on this. I'm glad they handled it with zero fuss. But it's still a little frustrating that I have to go through this process after only owning the truck for less than 3 weeks after buying it from them. They mentioned having to write a letter to ford on the next steps; whatever that means. I just hope the process isn't drawn out and made into a huge ordeal. But so far I'm happy how they are handling it. Just hope it stays that way.

Here's what happened...
Guy has a 2011 5.0 for a few years and it develops a knock. There were some early builds that had issues. Not a lot, but some are showing up now. The knock slowly gets worse, so the guy either tries to get it fixed unsuccessfully, or decides not to mess with it and dumps it with only 2k miles to go on his warranty. He adds some thick oil to it and trades it in. Dealer does normal service before selling it, including oil change. Along comes 191145 and buys it. [insert post #1 above here]
I'd say you have a good dealer. You'll find many posts on here of guys who had engine swaps and have no more issues.

No, but he was lucky! I think you'll be farther ahead with a new engine than you would have been with a decent one in the truck to begin with. Seriously, the guys with new engines, or even rebuilds, are doing great.
