There is a metal shroud just forward of the fiber pan. There are two rubber "plugs" in the metal shroud. The one closest to the front of the truck is where the oil comes out when changing the oil filter. Just give it a quarter turn, and it pulls right out. I had this same problem my first time changing the oil. I noticed there is an oval cut-out with a screen located at the back of what appears to be a filter drain. That little chute at the front is very misleading.
You can access the oil filter from underneath the truck by taking down the rubber cover. There are 3 or 4 plastic clips that hold it up. 1/2 turn and they unlock.

I am doing my first oil change today at 6400 miles. Is this bad? I was planning on doing them every 7500 miles.

I've heard that is good oil, but I have never used it. I just changed mine at 4,000 miles and went with Mobil 1. I think any of the full synthetics will do you just fine.

First oil change should be done no sooner than 5k miles. The reason for this is that there are additives from the factory that help engine "break in". This could account for a "burnt" oil smell and consistency. After the 1st change, 4,500-5,500 miles between changes is more than acceptable. I once went 10k before a change and I wouldn't do it again. Also, full synthetic should only be used on an engine with at least 30k mi. I tend to trust the dealer for this service, and a dipstick check shortly after a change ensures everything is kosher.

A dipstick check doesn't tell you that they put the right type of oil in your truck or that they even changed the filter. I know a lot of folks on this forum who have discovered that the dealer put 5w-20 in their EB. I hear that is bad for the turbos. I don't trust anyone to do things that I can easily do myself. I used to change oil at a rental car company and I know when you do 30-40 oil changes a day it is easy to make a mistake. I have a lot more invested when I do my own.

When they were finished I looked at the paperwork and sure enough, it said 5W20. I questioned it and they had to dig around in their computer, said they put 5W30 in, but the free oil change job generated 5w20 on the paperwork. I was skeptical. The next morning they called me and said they weren't sure what oil they put in it and to bring it back for another change. I was pissed at first but then I realized they could have not called me and let me run the truck for 5,000 miles with 5w20 in it.
Ain't nothing from dealers free! The dealer most likely hide the cost of the lifetime oil changes in your contract.

My last car was an 06 Mustang GT with lifetime oil changes...I found the hidden cost on the contract a few months later.

The supposedly free oil changes cost me $300
