Default 1400km Road Trip in Ecoboost

Yesterday I drove my truck 1400k in 24 hours for work. I topped off a tank from in town it hand calculated to 17.2. First tank of the trip I was pushing a 50km/h head wind and for part of the trip there was 2 inches of snow on the ground. Last 100 of the tank was a cross/ tail wind. Truck idled about two hours while I was out working as it was -25C. It worked out to 17.8, put 100 liters in the "98" liter tank. Next tank was same cross/ tail wind with about 5 hours idling. Got 18.9. Both those were at 112kph or 70mph. Last tank I really wanted to get home so I had cruise set at 76 mph and got 23 with no idling. The warmest it got all day was -17C.

I've got 3400 km on the clock now and in happy with the mileage for the power this thing has. 25 on a straight highway trip should be more than achievable.

Are your numbers miles/US gallon, miles/imperial gallon, Liters/100km? You never really say and since you're using miles and kilometers in your post........ it's kind of unclear.

thanks for the update, I'm sitting in the wings watching the performance of the ecoboost, before I let go of my 5.4 3v.

I must have a work truck, not a show truck. Your numbers are keeping my hopes up and the work part sounds great too!

Keep us informed.... it is really appreciated!

It's posts like this that have me hopeful that my fuel consumption will improve once the engine is broken in. Right now (around 475 miles on the clock) it's still sucking gas like it was built in Bavaria and I'm putting Pilsner in the tank. 17 highway @ 70 last weekend and around 13 in town right now. I'll reset the trip meters when I fill up, which should be just past the 500 mile mark.

My sales droid bought an XLT EB - said he noticed a distinct difference in performance around the 500 mile mark and is getting 15 in town. I can only hope. I didn't buy this thing for the fuel economy, my wife drives a Fusion hybrid for that (and it actually does better than they said it would). But still... I expect better than I would have gotten with last year's 5.4.

thanks for the update on the eb I'm gonna be following this engine very closely this year. That way i will have my mind made up at the end of the year. Hopefully there will be some huge incentives for some leftovers!

Good numbers. But I'm a but confused as to how you drove 1400km in one day when you were idle for 7 hours
