What does the bad pump sound like? This morning I started my truck and it sounded like somebody was trying to shift gears without pushing the clutch in. Noise only lasted for a second.

Sounds like a failing pump!

This truck has been a nightmare for me. Good thing mine is a 3rd vehicle- If I was depending on it for a pay check I would be broke and out of a job.

This is the 12th trip to the dealer in 18 monthes of ownership. Its too bad b/c putting the problems aside, I really love this truck.

Does it make a high pitch noise while driving. Mine sounds like it has a turbo....is a 5.0. When it gets to 1500 to 2000 rpms it makes this noise.

Mine started making a great deal of noise, then the breaks would at times not have positive pressure. Dealer found the issue however the pump has been on order for over 2 weeks, I called some friends in Dearborn at Ford IT and they confirmed it is not available. So many of these things go out, dealers that have them sell them on Ebay and users that need them are screwed. I have extended warranty however I have decided to scrap my plans for a 2015 and go with a different truck as soon as this one is fixed. I don’t want to sit around dorking with getting a chevy v6 pump to work for 140 bucks when the second one goes out. I cant believe this isn’t a recall issue, I did not have a warning light on the dash and in my opinion a class action lawsuit should be considered. 3 model years of the most popular vehicle have a **** vacuum pump that goes out all the time and leaves you with questionable brakes? Dealers with no parts? Customers with compromised trucks.

Fed up in Ohio.

I recommend everyone goes to the NHTSA web site and files a complaint.

I registered one and they will process within the next 3 days. Until someone leans on Ford you will be stuck with a truck just asking for the breaks to go out. I cant have my family in this vehicle.

The brakes aren't going to "go out". Worst case you would lose the assist and have a terrible feeling pedal and increased effort. You'll still have stopping power. Regardless, still not acceptable.

Mine made this noise on cold startup for a few seconds for a couple of months, and has since gone away for more than 6 months. I'm just waiting for it to come back, as I'm sure I won't get anywhere with the dealer if I can't reproduce.

I can tell you that 98 percent of the time when you let vacuum build the valves in the booster will keep enough vacuum to stop, slowly. But it is in fact possible to lose enough power that a alternative method for stopping is needed. I have learned to stay out of boost any time i might even think of stopping, and I use downshifts and tow/haul mode for boosting engine vacuum under deceleration. That said I have had 3 occasions where If it had been my wife or son they would have hit something.

Sorry to hear your pump is going out. Mine was the same, the noise stopped before I could get it into the dealer as they were booked. When it went in there was nothing wrong of course, 3 months later I almost drive through my garage.

This issue has been fixed for 2014 and later trucks, with a cam driven pump. My issue is with the handling of the issue, parts management, and how they are willing to treat a customer with a brakes issue. Its nowhere near acceptable in my opinion.

I thought I read somewhere that this was fixed for 2013 also. Does the 2013 still have the old pump design? I guess I need to look tonight.

I have been told both, so I don't know if it was mid-year or if people are just not informed. I do know 2014 is good to go. If I were buying a 2013 I would damn sure look.
