Default What type of gearing would work in my truck

It's a 91 ford f-150 BONE stock, no lift no big tires.

It has 3.55 running gears, i want to lift it one day. I want to put in a lsd, but not swap out the gears when i do it. What gear ratio will work with my truck ??

If you are running an automatic and you want to keep it streetable I would go with 3.90's. Once you put the bigger tire then the RPM's at hiway speed will go down. I recommend 33's with a 4 inch lift. You can fit 31's now with no lift. IF you are running a 5spd then 3.73's will work and keep it streetable. Eaton makes a good locker/ LS for the Ford. I have been very happy with them. I have installed quite a few of them. The downside to an Eaton is they are not rebuildable. If that is an issue get a stock ford LS carrier.

anywhere from 373 to 390 would be perfect for 31-33

So 31, 3.90 gearing for automatic. Thanks alot guys, what would my truck run like with 31 stock ?? I'm gonna be putting a few after market parts. IE k&n Intake, exhaust. Dual eletric fans so that should push my truck a little more.

Quick question, would a chip be a good idea ?? Jet chip module for my truck ??

you should be able to run 31s with verry little or no problem
the mods should make up for the gearing though

if you decide to go with 4:10s you will need a different front carrier.something to consider. Calvin
