Default What Am I doing Wrong??

Hey everyone, I purchased my 2011 ecoboost fx4 a couple months ago and the MPG's is really started to be a pain in the A** I drive it very very easy, Im in west texas where its flat. I have a 2.5" leveling kit and stock tire size BFG All terrains. I drive from Fort Worth to Midland which is 300+ Miles. I jump on the highway put it on 75 mph and reset the MPG. I was pulling 15 flat with my stock michelin tires. Since then, Ive added an AFE Stage 2 and turbosmart BOV's. With that being said, I pull 13.8 MPG. So much for the intake helping!! I then Bought an SCT tuner and it hasn't raised any! Whats wrong here? Is there a different tune I can buy to help? My buddy has the same truck and he gets 18 running 85 bone stock and it pisses me off! What can I do to help my mileage. Please no insults or tell me to buy a car for mileage. I need a truck but I need a little better mileage! I just sold my sct tuner as I was not impressed with any of the tunes installed. I drive 175+ miles a day all highway. If I could get to 17 I would be more than happy!

Yeah that's pretty terrible, I get 15 highway at 75 with the 6.2l. Honestly it looks like the intake hurt things so try going back to stock and see if it makes a difference again.

Then im back to square one. There has to be something I can add that will help the fuel economy. I had a 6.2 before this and pulled the 15 highway. I feel like I should have bought the 5.0 and not fallen for the gimmicks of the ecoboost. This is my second one. My king ranch ecoboost pulled 15.7 at 75. Still ****ty. That one had a horrible problem with spark plugs fouling out on cylinder 6.

Welp, one thing against you is what's against all of us this time of year. The Winter blending of fuel. I have an '11 Lariat with the 6.2. On my trips out to West Virginia, I usually get 18-19.5mpg going 65mph. That's about 265 miles. My last trip out was in November for hunting season and I struggled to get 17-18mpg. Here at home, what I call highway is less than 20 miles and I usually muster about 15-17mpg. Now it's more like 13-15mpg. Local driving, doing errands I was usually getting 12-12.5mpg. Now I'm at about 11-11.5mpg. Nothing has changed in how I drive, I have a SCT Livewire and I usually stay on the canned tune for local driving here at home. I get better gas mileage than on one of my Performance tunes. So yea, you should be doing better than that with the Ecoboost for sure.

Couple of things that are making things worse. First and foremost your tires. BFG's are LT tires. They are likely 14-15 pounds per tire heavier than your stockers at the same size, depending on the brand of the stock tires. The 2.5" level makes you a little less aerodynamic as well. What rear end ratio do you have? Also, my MPG is not that great at 75mph. My truck's sweet spot is at 55mph. 65mph is not too bad but 70+ is definitely worse.

I have the 2013 4x4 Lariat and I'm running BFG AT in 285x65R20, banks CAI, magna flow cat back exhaust, rancho 2 inch quick lift, and a hypertech programmer and I went from Tucson to Flagstaff and back and I averaged 18.6 mpg on my trip. Not sure what is going on. I know that I heard the war stories about the 2011 and 2012 eccoboost engines having a lot of problems. Wish I could give you some guidance, but not a lot to give you. Good luck.
