Thumbs up Universal MagnaFlow 14" Muffler - My Opinion

I've had my truck about a month now. So far, I really haven't done much to it. It is a 2005 5.4 V8 with 113,000 miles. All I've done so far is: K&N drop in filter, engine flush, step rails, new fuel filter, and a MAGNAFLOW muffler.

About the muffler. It is a universal 14" MagnaFlow single in single out. I added a 3" tip for looks. And I might say, I am very pleased. I wanted a muffler that didn't give off the loud rumble or give a drone on the highway. I made a great choice. I had it installed and didn't tell my wife. We were getting ready to leave and after I cranked the truck she said, "I don't know why you want an exhaust, your truck sounds great!" That was the icing on the cake.

There is a nice rumble on start up, but it really isn't too noticeable until you hit the gas. There is barely any drone on the interstate and it doesn't affect the cabin sound at all. If you can't tell yet, I highly recommend. I will try to update with a video this weekend. Thanks for reading. Vroom Vroom!

I have this muffler with the Roush CIA and it drones like a mother on the highway at 1800rpm.

My buddy says it's the CIA that's making the exhaust louder, I can't really wrap my head around that but maybe he is right!

Hi.

It's the muffler. This platform tends to drone in the 1800-2200 rpm range, especially under load (pulling a hill, a trailer, etc).

Some folks experience this - other don't. One fix is to put a bullet in front of the muffler - acts as a resonator. The larger MangledFlows don't do it as much if at all.

CAI/WAI's can do this as well - another seemingly random symptom.

Try-before-you-buy if you can. Some shops are amenable but most are not.

good luck!

Just in case anyone wanted to hear it. I was at a red light with the windows up just to show how much you hear in the cabin.
