Whats the best tuner?
Any tuner can make a tune to hold the OD longer with better shift points. Adding to a tuner i would suggest into swapping gears, and here im assuming that you have the 3.55 gears. If that is the case, I'm on the same boat as you, after the lift and tires the truck became sluggish and needs a little more punch on the pedal to go. A tuner would compensate that but the stress on the gearbox will still remain, here, comes the gears swap benefits.

Default 08' f150 chip

Hey ya'll I am new to this forum. I am sure this has already been discussed but here is my question. I have an '08 F150 w/ 5.4L. I just bought a travel trailer that will weigh about 8000lb loaded. What towing chip is recommended. I see that SCT gets lots of kudos. Thanks!

OK, I'm new on here also, what is SCT? I just purchased an 09 F150 Lariat with the 5.4L and 3.31 gear and 20" tires, I need gas mileage as I do a lot of open road traveling. My first mini mod is the K&N filter, what's next?
Thanks guys

SCT is the tuner brand name. you can get it from most vendors on the forum with custom tunes for performance/towing/economy.
What most reviews state, is that even with a performance tune you will get a better gas mileage than stock.
I have the same model/engine as yours, and i should get my tuner this week and my custom tunes within a couple of days later. I will eventually post my review.

Let me know how it went, I'm really interested in working on this thing, I've averaged about 16MPG in just over 4000 miles in 20 days! Open highway at 78-79MPH seems best for this combo, slower or faster and the mpg drops off.
Any thoughts?

Sooooo.....i've got a 2012 EB LB Maw Tow SCREW. Installed the SCT with 87 octane program and noticed much worse fuel mileage. Without the tuner, i would average around 12-12.5L/100km. That is both city and highway driving and not being aggressive on the throttle. On the highway alone, i would get as good as 10L/100km.

Install the SCT, and noticed a definite performance improvement even on the 87 tune. However, even being lighter on the throttle than one of the Olsen twins, it was hard to average better than 13.5-14L/100km.

With gas the price it is in Canada, i can't see any tuner being beneficial for gas mileage (in my experience only). I have not seen the mileage gains others have seen. Is the truck more fun to drive? yes! Would i put high-octane in and try a 91 tune, no. Way too much $$$ in the tank.

I might consider a custom tune to see if there are any differences, but i can't imagine they would be able to increase power/performace AND maintain good fuel economy.

My 2 cents on the tuners. I got mine for $40 from a guy who didn't want it any longer.
