Default Is Superchips Installed

Hi all!
I just bought a 2009 F-150 FX4 with a 5.4L engine. Looking under the hood, there is a K&N CAI installed. On the dash, there is a sticker that says "Superchiips Equipped." No tuner came with the vehicle when I bought it from the dealer. Is there anway to tell if it is still installed or is it just the tuner? I'm a noob!

Try driving in OverDrive, I know my truck won't do it because of the programmer.

Ummmm no. The truck he has can not be "chipped" in the sense you are talking about. It can only be programmed via the OBD2 port with a programmer. There is no physical change that you can see on the truck in any way at all.

Truthfully I'm not sure if there is a way to tell if it is tuned or not honestly without the handheld tuner. You might try sending a PM to some of the vendors here on the forum and see if they know. Hell place a call to Superchips directly and see what they say or what you can try.

If the truck does over 100mph then it's tuned. LOL

But honestly i would contact superchips to see if there is a way to tell I doubt there is. This is rather important if you ask me. Reason buying is that if the PO installed a 93 octane tune and you put 87 octane then you could cause some issues.

You could also have Ford reflash your computer to stock, but if it is tuned you lose the free tune you have.

Superchip is a brand, not an actual item.

There is no chip made for our trucks, it would be programmed and programmed only, if in fact ts is tuned.

To my knowledge, if you dont have the tuner/programmer or able to get ahold of the prior owner, there isn't a way to tell physically at all. Superchips may be different from SCT in that regards but I doubt it.

A tune literally is just a computer file that's uploaded to the truck so without the actual device itself, no way to know.
