i just recently purchased a 2008 f150 with a 5.4 triton. was looking to add more HP and was looking into a supercharger kit. was just wondering if its worth it or if its gonna give me nothing but engine trouble? also is it as simple as installing and tune up or do i have to tear my whole engine down and change more internal parts. new to this kinda project on a truck so any information on the subject will be greatly appreciated.

You can actually keep a very reliable engine with a Super Charger on it. I don't recall what brand but if you let the Ford Dealer install there Supercharger Ford would give you a Warranty on it and it wouldn't change your original Warranty.

Most Supercharger kit makers know these are going on stock motors so there is no need to upgrade your motor with things such as Forged Internals because the SC dealers designed them to put out enough boost that no Motor Mods are required.

Edit: Although it is a little more expensive, do NOT buy one without an Intercooler. That is a piece that will keep everything more reliable.

have had a ford racing charger on my truck for a year and a half, never had any isues yet. if you dont drive like crazy all the time. the truck is a whole different beast after it is charged. but beware of the mod bug after you start cause it will never be enough lol... hope this helps

thanks bass you pretty much answered my question. im looking into a roush 3v supercharger. any knowledge on how much horsepower gains i could expect to get?

ya you might be right jamie. i've never really done to much engine tune ups on my trucks but i know when i lift them i can never get big enough.

If you get intercooled you can expect anywhere from a range of 150-175HP check the specs on the SCs you look at most of them will give u an estimate.

I have a plain old SC from Roush on my truck without a intercooler. I have had no issues since I put it on over a year ago and have nothing but good things to say about the kit.

It cost me 3000.00 total and I am totally satisfied with the product and my truck.

Question? How much boost do you think you have with that kit? And do you have problems with preignition when runing 87 octane if you get on it a lot?

Just curious for future reference if my time ever comes to decide if I would like a SC

5-7 lbs....putting 87 octane in the tank is asking for detonation......not good.....I don't know if you can get a different tune and adjust it to run 87 or not...but roush says run 91 or better.....
