Recommendations on Brake Rotors and Pads?
Hello all - I have a 2010 SCREW Lariat with about 80K that is in need of its SECOND set of front brakes. I drive a lot in the mountains of Colorado, Utah, New Mexico and Wyoming, usually with quite a bit of weight. Might be my driving or the traffic on I70, but this thing is pissing through brakes. My previous truck was a Sierra 2500 Duramax and maybe they just came with more 'commercial' grade...
I am interested in the community's thoughts about upgrading rotors and pads. What styles, brands, materials do you recommend and where should I go to get them?
Thanks in advance.

I have had sketchy experiences with aftermarket brake stuff...some of it works, most of it doesn't.
I just had my front pads changed to another FORD brand pad which have a lifetime warranty....screw the pads and the next set are free. And I have never seen anyone beat an OEM backed warranty.

I do buy quality so skip the B.S.
I do not know if my brake pads are metallic or not....I never saw the need to ask. What I do know is that I go to FORD, I get my brakes done, I ask that they install the best and these are what I got. My FORD dealer has rarely failed me and when there was a failure, which does happen, they have always payed for parts and payed for labour. NOT 1, but both, parts and labour. I have never had an aftermarket vendor pay for any of the labour that was required to re-installed their failed parts....never....and I have had so called high quality aftermarket parts fail.

What the pads are made of can make a big difference in performance. That's why most performance pads are ceramics and most economy pads are organic or semi metallic. Just something to consider. My truck eats through OEM semi metallics because I tow quite frequently, but ceramics last much longer.

I have heard that semi-metallic pads are actually better for towing but I also know that the F150 is heavily biased towards the front brakes so front brake heat is always going to be a problem. That is why my front pads were changed after only 35,000 miles.....they were showing signs of heat cracking.
I believe that the new front brakes are metallic and that the rears are still semi-metallic just because I cannot see a lifetime warranty on semi-metallic pads. My guess is that I will end up turning/changing the rotors before I change the pads but I think that I am ok with that.
