Default Considering Upgrades: Heartthrob Exhaust, Air Intake, SuperChip for 2012 ecoboost

Hey Guys...

I'm considering upgrades to my new F150 w/ 4k miles on it. To be honest I've been a bit disappointed on the mileage I've been getting. I think I averaging about 16.5-17mpg.

Looking for REAL LIFE claims from people who have installed exhaust/superchip/air intake.

I watched this very informative episode by
on the three mods I'm looking at.

It looks like the greatest gains can come from the exhaust. Namely, the heartthrob exhaust. I'm open to other exhaust packages as well, though it appears that none are getting the performance gains people are seeing with the heartthrob. Supposedly, it gives you 40+ ft/lb of torque and about the same increase in horsepower. Plus about 1+ extra mpg. Those are pretty impressive numbers for a bolt on exhaust. Any folks here put that package on their ecoboost?

Next, I would probably do an air intake at the same time. I've heard airaid intakes are good. What type of gains will you see from one of these upgrades?

Lastly, I've heard of superchips, but don't know the first thing about them. I've heard some negative things about them...like them being VERY hard on the engine. Looking for people to shed some light here.

Thanks guys!

You won't see any fuel gains from intake or exhaust. And no way gonna get 40 hp from exhaust alone, its been proven to show that particular system hp gains are false. Not saying the system sucks, but not gonna get 40 horses in real world or even close. Far as a tuner, best bet is either SCT or Livernois. I'd stay away from super chips

I've heard good things about the Heartthrob or Magnaflow exhaust.
Airaid is good quality, can't go wrong with it.
And I've looked into UNIchip and SCT ..

It's all in your foot for gas mileage though. I talked with a guy getting 26 mpg on highway with cruise control at 65.

I put on a air raid intake on in January. Noticed a small gain in fuel. Probley 1-2 L/100 km. the I put mbrp dual exhaust on in September. I haven't noticed any gain there. But Lilky because I'm on the fuel more because I like the way it sounds. Has a nice little rumble to it. I'm going to get the vivid linq tuner as soon as it is avaible for the iPhone. Also the intake I have right now is the stage one. I'm looking to sell it some time and upgrading to the stage 2 intake

Tuner is your best bet and easiest to return to stock when taking it in for maintenance at the stealership.

When you guys are talking mpg's you're not stating configurations. A guy with a reg cab 2wd with 3:53 gears in Florida is gonna be way different from a guy in Colorado with a screw model 4wd , 34in tires, 4:10 gears. It's just not gonna be the same, so if you hear a guy satin he gets 26mpg ask him all the info that truck. And if he only rides downhill.. After all The screw models weigh @ 6k or over . I forget off the top of my head.

here's what I got after 200'ish miles.

mods were mpt 91 race tune, heartthrob 4" exhaust catback with magnaflow muffler and mbrp tip, and airraid air filter. 4x4 SCrew, 3.55, stock 18s, no lift, no level. This was with 3 people in the truck and fishing gear and coolers going from Oklahoma City to Wichita, Ks. Elevation was going up and I was not using cruise control. I tried to maintain pedal position versus cruise trying to maintain speed. I was averaging 70-80 mph. Mileage was higher but this was after a day or two of driving to and from work after the road trip.

The tuner was the best upgrade out of everything. It made the throttle response more instant than stock tune.

The longer you wait, the better the upgrades will start coming out. If you wait for the holiday sales, you might be some discounted packages also.

We have lots of very saitisfied customers using our EcoBoost kit, and it's actually one of our better performing kits. If you have any specific questions regarding our kit for the EcoBoost, feel free to post up or PM us!

I put the Heartthrob on with only 500 miles(didn't even have the truck a week) on my wife's 2012 FX4. And Holy Chit you can feel the difference right away. The HP and TQ numbers they claim have to be right cause the truck was even more of torque monster. I added the K&N intake kit about 2 weeks after that. Then we drove it on 2,500 mile road trip to visit family the exhaust wasn't loud at 85-90 mph on the Interstate. We really like it and my wife likes wiping the smiles of the Audi, Honda, Subaru, and other import cars when the truck wastes them. We have 8,500 miles on the truck now so 8,000 on the exhaust. It still sounds good and have had no issues with it. Still deciding on a tuner for it. I gear axles for living so once I get the lift and 35s on the truck is getting some 4.56 gears.

Ordered the vivid linq from superchips and got it last week, still haven't been able to use it yet. It's still a pretty new system and has a lot of bugs but think it'll meet expectations once I can get it to work ( superchips closed for the holidays until tomorrow). They've been around for a long time and have a good reputation so I fully expect it to come around. One good thing about superchips is that they provide updates pretty often so it's ever evolving.
My AFE stage 2 intake will be here tomorrow and I'll let you know about that this weekend.
I don't have any plans to change my exhaust... if I preferred the rumble of an exhaust over the whine of a turbo I would have gotten a V8. Not to mention those "HP" gains are most likely not at peak. I've noticed from looking at dyno charts that manufacturers will take the biggest hp and torque gaps and advertise that as their gains what they don't tell you is that their "gains" are at idle and the peak hp is only 2-3 higher. Plus I had a 4.0 v6 with exhaust and it just sounded dumb so... I'm not risking my $600-$700 on a chance at that sound... even if the gain is 30 hp at peak.
Just my opinions but hey, different strokes for different folks right.
