Default Leveling vs Lifting Kit

Hey I currently drive a 2006 Fx4 and I'd like to lift it a little bit to be able to get some bigger tires as well as the fact that I like the look. I don't want to go above 2 or 3 inches, I want something that's noticeable but not over the top. Would a leveling kit give the truck that lifted look or should I go straight to a lift kit? I'm new to this kind of stuff so if this is a stupid question please refrain from harsh comments. Also do leveling and lift kits hurt the truck in the long run in terms of the suspension and life span of the truck? Thanks a lot.

I would say that a leveling kit is the cheaper way of seeing if you like your truck sitting a little higher. See if you like a taller truck with bigger tires. You can go back with much ease. BUT once you go with a lift kit you are stuck with a lift kit, there aint no goin back. Check out the forums though, see some pics, they will help you decide which is right for you.

This is my f150 that I leveled out 2 inches which I think is better and looks better than a lift kit. Only paid 35 bucks on eBay which the leveling kit works for 04 and up same struts. 33 nitto trail grapplers

great looking truck! Thanks for sharing the pictures. That is basically the exact look I'm going for with mine. Nothing overkill, just enough to look good. Did you do the installation yourself?

Sure did. I had the leveling kit on my 06 f150 then took it off and put it on my new truck which is a little harder than the 06 because of the bottom part of the strut is different. It's gonna take some ***** to do it tho

I would recommend the leveling kit. My brother and I had a few beers and put mine on which didn't take too long. Turned out real nice and you can put some good looking and good sized tires on. Here is a picture of mine right after the new tires were installed.

That couldn't further from the truth, lift kits are completely reversible provided the owner keeps the oem parts. Even if not you can always buy the oem parts like any other auto part.

I still have all my oem parts just incase I decide to trade or sell my truck including the factory wheels/tires.

Eh I mean you can't go back as easily as pulling a block off the strut. Requires welding a crossmember back to the frame, something that would require a professional welder.

I guess the real point I am trying to get at is that you can get into and out of a level with little effort and money, I personally think its a great starting place to see if they really want to go any taller then that.

Wrong again, I don't know what brand lift kit your talking about but I can say for certain the lift kit I installed required no welding, everything bolted in place and can just as easily be returned to stock.

When I say I installed the kit I meant that literally, I didn't pay some one to do it, I'm a professional auto tech 30+ years. I also did my own alignment.
