Default Retraxone vs bakflip g2/f1?

I'm torn between the two for my 5.5" bed. I like the look of the retraxone the best but when fully open I lose a few inches. Does the lose affect usage? It's an occasional use used bed bed I don't want to get stuck when the time comes because that's the point of me having a truck. Also, negatives and positives to it vs the bakflip? I've read one is metal and one is fiberglass?

I was in the same position a few months. I ended up going with the Backflip F1 because it was easier to totally remove, no lost space in the bed and no problems in cold weather. I have never experienced it myself but I did hear that the roll up bed covers had problems in cold weather with freezing and also debris getting in the canister when rolled up. I do agree that the retrax looks better though. I'm quite happy with my Bakflip F1 and it's been waterproof since day one which is the main reason I bought a bed cover.

No matter what retractable cover you buy, you will lose about a foot of space due to the canister. So, your 5.5 ft. opening becomes 4.5 ft.

The Undercover Flex is sort of a copy of the Bakflip, but Undercover improved on the design and the Flex costs less also.

I'll really lose a whole foot? Top to bottom and front to back? The bed is small enough at times. Maybe the bakflip would work out. But get the f1 over the g2?

You will lose a foot front to back and roughly a foot up and down. If you get a Bakflip, the Bakflip Fibermax is the best bargain in my opinion.

No, the Fibermax is not the G2. The G2 has aluminum panels. The F1 and Fibermax have FRP (fiberglass reinforced plastic) top panels which are more desirable than aluminum.

So, to compare the F1 and Fibermax:
F1 - 1/2" thick, can hold 500 lbs. distributed weight, 3-year warranty.
Fibermax - 1/2" thick, can hold 400 lbs. distributed weight, 2-year warranty.

There is a big difference in price between the F1 and Fibermax.

I see only a $50 difference if ordered online between Fibermax and f1.

Not sure where you're looking, but it's a $141 difference on AutoAnything.
