I personally despise my vinyl roll up cover. It doesnt really take up any room but its just such a PITA to open. Not sure if it was installed incorrectly by my dealer or what. Plus it leaks a lot. Im personally thinking of getting rid of it and "upgrading" to a Peragon. And its a 2011 truck too, so its not like it went bad over time. Its been like that since i got it. :/

Undercover bed cover
Does anyone else have an Undercover? Lightweight (50 lbs). Strong! Black, shiny. Two turn-style locks (one on each side).
I can open or close mine using one hand only. Manufacturer says cover can be removed or reinstalled in one minute. I've not removed mine yet.
Almost waterproof.
$800 installed was pricy but worth every bit of it. Love mine on max tow 2011 screw eco. And matches black color scheme of mirrors and door handles.

Paragon cover, opening at the front of the bed?
Peragon, is your cover (or a future model) openable at the front of the bed without opening the tailgate first? My F150 SCAB 4x4 has the popout steps in front of the rear wheel wells. I would love to have a hatch or some other way to get to the front of the bed without having to open the tailgate.
Thanks,
Paul

To open our Peragon truck bed cover, you push down on the first two panels behind the cab, which starts the cover retracting. (For a better perspective, check out the video on our web site.) The cover is completely independent of the tailgate. So you could open the cover while standing at the front where you have the steps without ever having to open the tailgate or go around to the rear of the truck. The cover only opens one direction, moving from the tailgate towards the cab. We don't have any plans to change that. I hope that helps! If you have any other questions, please let me know.

The decision process...
The extang can't be broken into with a coat hanger. You are thinking of the back flip. The backflip is good but terrible for security. Stick a coat hanger in the gap in the back corner by the tailgate and snag the cover release and your in. To get Into the extang solid fold there is only one way.... Crowbar.
I first located the Bakflip by accident. Seemed like a great idea. Love how it can be open part way and click secure. Was a toss up between that and the RollBak. Then I questioned the rubber hinges. Could someone slice them and get inside. Well, this post about the hanger made my decision easier.
Never heard of the Extang really other than all their soft covers. I just checked that solid fold and it seems to cover the rails. That limits my choices even more.
Thanks to the forum for the information and thank you Peragon for being so helpful.

Retractable Bed Cover
Hi Jerry -
Welcome to the forum!
When the cover is folded up, it will hang down into the truck bed about 12" and come back from the front wall of the bed about 6". As the cover is folding and unfolding, the panels follow an arc that requires some additional clearance - this is best viewed by trying out the interactive demo on our Features page linked here. What I do is load shorter items toward the front of the bed and taller items toward the tailgate so you can maximize your cargo space while allowing room for the cover to retract. While our cover still requires room to retract, an advantage of our design is that we don't have a canister hanging down all the time permanently taking cargo space. If you have a larger item that needs to go all the way to the front wall, you have access to that space without a canister in your way.
We don't officially have a feature to allow for traveling with the cover part way open. It can be done, but it isn't convenient so we don't promote it as a product feature. However, if you only need to do it occasionally like for the situation you've described, it would work well for you.
We can't guarantee compatibility, but we've had customers successfully install the Adarac and the TracRac with our cover. Some extra shims or modification to the mounting holes might be needed so their base rails clear the guide rails for our cover. With a little effort, it's a great combination of utility.
I hope that helps. Please let me know if you have any other questions!

I had an extang tri-fold (awesome cover! had it 6 years and worked great!) on my old truck with rubbermaid bins, but I'd like my tool storage to be something a little more substantial and I'm tired of putting the rubbermaids in the backseat when I need the full length of the bed.
