The foam is supposed to help guide the cable in easier when you close the gate, but if you install it reversed like mine there's really no reason for it.

Not sure why it's so much now as I only paid $36 for mine. Maybe a typo - might be worth asking him if you're interested.
I have this one too. Bought it from the same seller. Make sure to e-mail them and ask for the newer version. I've had both versions and the newer version is 100% better and less hassle (newer version has different mount and you don't need the foam cable thingy). Never had any problems with anything coming loose on either version. Just follow directions and it should work just fine.

Hi guys, been a while! I'm the one who found about the 2-3 washers and switching the original cable and the ez-down. Work lkee a charm! If my memory is till good, I have a video of it in "my garage" on this forum. Pic & vid worth 1000 words...
Dee zee tailgate assist works great. Provided the special Allen, thread locker , all necessary hardware and detailed instructions. Told you how many turns to tighten things along with the appropriate size wrench.
No foam thing or heat shrink. Purchased it off amazon for 30 bucks or so.

Yeah, from the pics on the dee zee website that looks like the newer model. Like I said previously it is a lot less hassle than the older version...better mount, no need to add washers, and no foam thingy.
