To me the receiver mount isn't an option because you can't find a receiver that is rated for 12k lbs. I'd like to purchase a good winch that I can move from truck to truck over the years. My next truck will likely be a 3/4 ton and I therefore, I want a 12k winch. However the hitches aren't rated for that kind of pull.

No but you can find them rated for 10,000 lb. I installed this plate (1/4" steel bolted 6X to the frame rails.)

Then this is bolted on top (not strictly built for this but it works):

Then you have a strong front receiver which does not hang down. The winch can be easily removed so the inter cooler is not covered. During winching, you probably will only be operating at very slow speeds/low or no boost. You could even open the hood if concerned about air flow.

I also ran wire to my rear receiver so that I can install the winch there.

Here is the completed job. Was easy to mount, I did it alone with the help of a motorcycle lift to support the bumper until I had it secured with a couple of bolts.
About the possible over heating issue. I installed a larger IC from AFE.

Default Winch / Hidden Winch

Hi SurfinDad !

Hey, your F-150 looks really awesome... with the way you put the winch on an all. Professional ! Say, I am getting the F-150 Lariat Powerboost Hybrid this week. I know next to nothing about where to start but I f I could do something like you did that would be great fun !!!

Care to reflect on my dillemma?

Real nice work there on your hidden winch. Can you tell me where to find one for a F-150 Supercrew Lariat 35. Powerboost Hybrid? it should be here this weekend.

Your truck looks cool and you figured out these intricacies that I have never even hear about. Any help appreciated.
