Default HID question when/if I change to RAM...

Hi all, potentially considering a RAM 1500 sport as my next truck. As you all know, the RAMs have projector beam light but they are not HID. I currently have a 2013 fx4 s/crew ecoboost app package. The HIDs I have I like very much. My question is what color/light spec is my current light, as I want to do a conversion when and if I get a RAM. I just don't know what I should be looking or asking for. The color and light output of my f150 I feel is perfect. I would like this for the RAM as well. Thanks again!

I think with something between 4300-5500K you will be happy with. And as always TheRetrofitSource.com should be the only place you buy HID components.

I definitely don't have the know-how to do it myself, so I would probably be looking for a shop in the Edmonton area...
Actually, I don't mind it being a tad brighter than my stock f150 HIDs... 5500k is brighter than 4300? What is the f150 HID?

Most factory HIDs are 4300-4500K.

4300K is brighter than 5500K. Basically the lower the rating the brighter it is. The higher the K rating the more color but less actual light.

So 4300k is likely brighter than my stock ones?
I'm guessing the light is blue-ish when first illuminated, then turns mostly white?

Stock F-150 HIDs or Stock Dodge Halogens?

The F-150s are 4300K so no difference, but yes brighter than the dodge stock halogens.

When considering light output think Lumens not the temp color 4300,5200 etc, 4300 is just about the best because any more than that the lumens start to drop off.

From TRS Website

Using H11 Bulbs as a example

35W 3000K = 2800lumens
35W 4500K = 3500lumens
35W 5500K = 3400lumens
35W 6500K = 3200lumens
55W Adds 20% Lumens and Minuses 1000K. Going with a 55W also decreases the life and warranty.

So quick math

55W 3000K(Closer To 2000K) = 3360lumens
55W 4500K(Closer To 3500K) = 4200lumens
55W 5500K(Closer To 4500K) = 4080lumens
55W 6500K(Closer To 5500K) = 3840lumens

Smile Hid headlight kelvin / temp rating

pctcone......I have a 2014 with stock HID's and they are 4300K....they are way brighter than the stock halogen units, but to me still have that yellowish tinge of color to them. I prefer the cleaner, white output of the 6000K units. I plan to change over to those, but they are right at $300 a pair so have to wait a bit. ( Go to YouTube and search how to do this....looks pretty easy, and way cheaper than having it done ? )

I did however change out my stock Halogen fog lights over to 35W Innovited HID's at 6000K and LOVE, LOVE them. They REALLY light up the road in front of me and out to the sides.

Once you start going higher in temp rating, you get the bluish tint to the color ( 8000K ) but way less lumens as Z7What stated.

Which is why a quality HID company like TRS doesn't sell anything higher than 6500K.
