I did not have a compass in my mirror. I know that if you do and you install the exact one I used, you'd loose that feature. You'd have to find a rear view mirror with LCD and compass, though I don't know that such a product exists. I have a compass on my torque pro app.

Ok, thanks. I did some more research and it looks like I'll have to pull the board out of the stock mirror and tuck it above the headliner to retain the compass feature. Easy enough.

Is your compass on the dash? I have an stx so it's bare. The last compass I've seen on an auto was read inside a little box in the mirror.

The gyro is in the mirror but the display is on the dash, across from the temp readout by the clock.

I already have a rear camera ('15 f150 with Sync) but want to use a front camera with a rearview mirror and lcd. I was planning on using a switch to turn the camera on/off. Would I be switching the power to the camera? If the rca cable is going into the mirror, but there's no power to the camera, would the lcd screen not be visible?

Trying to figure out the right way to do this. Thanks

Does your current rearview mirror control anything? Like a compass? Garage opener? If so, you may lose those functions replacing the rearview mirror.

The rearview mirror will get its own power supply, I have mine wired into a fuse that comes on w/ ignition. So its on already, but the LCD will not be lit until it receives the signal via rca cable.

The camera will also be wired to a power supply with the switch in the middle to cut / supply power when you want to view it. So yes, power the camera to get video.

Hopefully that all made sense. I can clarify better via the computer later.

No, my mirror doesn't have any buttons or features like that. The cable going into it must be to power the auto-dim feature?

It looks like the mirrors on Amazon, with built in LCDs, accept the factory wire hookup. ? Or are you saying I need to supply it with additional power.

So, no power to the camera means nothing displayed on the mirror. Awesome, not a bad option for a $100 mirror and $20-30 camera. If its not to hard to get at, I'm going to put a switch in the center console, between the driver and passenger seats. Guess thats another thread.

I've had my truck for 8 months and still never sure how much room I have when pulling into a spot. Hate getting out only to find I could have pulled up another 8".

I can't say for certain that the cable only auto dims, but it seems like the most logical reason for it.

Your stock mirror will most likely disconnect somewhere along the wires, the new mirror has a power and ground wire. I'm sure you could tap into the existing harness if there is one, but I wouldn't know which pin was what.

I like using my front mirror for parking up close, and also to make sure nothing has run in front when pulling off the street etc. I definitely use my reverse more.

Nice job OP and thanks for sharing.
My truck already has a back-up camera but I want one on the front to help with parking so next week I'm going to mount a small camera up front, maybe right under the Ford emblem and then put a 4" monitor in the flip down sunglass holder that I will never use. When I want to use it I will just drop the sunglass holder and see the monitor and flip it shut when not in use. May not be for everyone but it will work for us.
