Great link, after reading some of the problems with using the nutsert during install ... I used this method for initial install. Didn't take long at all.

Best place to buy?
Just went to one site and it excludes these? What else is there?

Thanks. Going to have to call or buy local.
Mines a SuperCrew and 5.5' box. Nothing says it fits. No idea what difference it should make.

4 years since I installed my ez down assist using the nutsert included and still holding tight. The best I can offer for why people have issues with it is the lack of knowledge of how to properly install one.

For a newb it can very easily go south as there is a very close tolerance on what is tight and what is over tight. Takes a skilled hand to (FEEL) the difference or a torque spec that of which is not included with the device.

I installed one on my 2013 and have had no issues. Works great and is so nice not to have the tailgate slam down when you open it.

Yes cold weather does slow it down greatly but is much better spring, summer and fall. Well worth the wait.
