Man, eff the dee zee tailgat assist. It gave out on me yesterday. I hadn't realized it had come apart and when I closed my tailgate something just did not feel right. I opened it back up and saw it hanging from the upper part of the hydraulic. The bottom with the ball had come right out of the nutsert and scratched my paint right to the metal. I put touch up paint on it and of course it looks horrible. I knows you're supposed to put primer but it's not in a very noticeable or "high traffic" area. As much as I love it's function, mine was more trouble than it was worth.

Don't blame product for user error. There are several hundred documented installs with no issues.

You obviously lacked the coherence to follow instructions or received a defective part.

With that said return the defective part for replacement and install as instructed.

That is IF the part is defective.

Either way you won't be out any money because it has a warranty, so fix your problem with the company's backing or a money back guarantee and stop uselessly complaining about a product that will return your $$$

I swear you have stock in this company lol. IF I follow instructions completely and its rock solid when I am finished, is that user error? As well, I have contacted the company several times with no response. Mileage may vary with this item. Past reviews prove it. I'm sure I'm in the minority where it fails; I don't dispute that. In any case, I do take full responsibility for the damage it did as when it started coming loose and I had to tighten I up regularly, I should've just ripped the thing off my truck.

I won't give up on it because I loved it when everything was good with it. I will give up on customer service. I'll eventually do the "Raptor mod" or locktite that ****, I'm sure.

I scrapped the nutsert and installed a lock nut inside the tailgate and will never come loose.many people have done what I did. You can google it and a guy has the whole process with pictures/directions etc...took no longer than an hour to do...

I stopped putting my money in the stock market years ago, too risky. Well at least in the general stocks, I do invest in gov options heavily, the return isn't all that great but it's guaranteed.

I saw a post where a guy drilled and tapped a hole right next to the hole you're supposed to use then threaded the ball into it. It seemed to work out OK for him.

Put one on my 2014 Raptor. Nutsert a bit fiddley but not a huge hassle. Very nice product, makes the tailgate easier to use.

Installed mine today. Was the newer design where the strut hangs on an attachment point that you add to the tailgate screw. I applied the included locktite to both the nutsert threads and the threads of the bolt going into the nutset. If it loosens, I'll do the fix.
