An update on my Gibson 9210 cat-back system. I am very pleased with the muffler and system at large as my mileage is up some- my range is now around 611 miles when full, where it has always been in the high 500s except when taking a trip. Maybe not much different in itself, I suppose. Normal combined driving mileage hovers around 17.6 mpg consistently instead of varying from 16 to 18 (mostly 16. something). Low end torque is improved, as promised- mileage is much more consistent when towing. The only negative thing I will say is that the hanger bracket on the headpipe was welded in the wrong location, causing you to have to really jack up the system to use it as received. Eventually, after some help from Gibson, they supplied me with a clamp- on hanger bracket which I promptly took to a muffler shop to have welded on in the position ($25.00, not yet reimbursed) where I think is the best position for overall fit and system placement. I would never have mentioned this (because it was eventually resolved) had I not purchased the stainless cousin to this aluminized system and found the same hanger bracket welded in the same way as the one on the first system. When I saw this, I immediately requested and I am in the process of returning the stainless system for evaluation. The seller says that they have sold many of these systems with no complaints. There are several possibilities for this, the first coming to mind is that I do not know how to install an exhaust system- not true! Another possibility is that like I read on an Amazon review is that the owner took the system to a muffler shop where they modified the hanger brackets, and the system is still not right- tip misalignment, removing the spare tire heat shield for clearance. For me, rolling the headpipe over 90 degrees to look more like in the instruction picture caused everything else to line up pretty well. So, my question becomes, have others experienced this with any other or even with this system? I would really like to hear about other folks' experiences.

All i did was remove the muffler and all the piping from the Catted Y pipe back. Very loud, a little too loud for me at idle because its right under the passenger seat. But on WOT good god is it beautiful. Gets a little metal grinding sound above 4k but sounds so angry.

Agreed with, Zman. But you pay for quality product. I paid 850 w/shipping for my ATAK Borla. I couldn't be happier.

2010 Super Crew Lariat 4x4 with 5.4L engine

Had a Magnaflow installed a couple weeks ago and LOVE it! I didn't want an extremely loud exhaust with all the popping noise like firecrackers going off; I just wanted a deep rumble, which is exactly what I got.

I didn't expect any gas mileage or horsepower improvements and I am very skeptical of claims people make along those lines.

IMO, a vehicle is completely broken in by 10k miles. God, I hate those pop-ups! Of course that is an opinion. What I usually ask myself is will what I want to do affect my warranty?

Hi, guy. I used to live in Tallahassee when I did HVAC work. I really enjoyed the area, but then wife had other plans. Anyway, back to exhaust. Are you curious how many folks are using a Gibson exhaust? Just sayin'.

Exhaust system update- on the Gibson 9210 system, I finally got a resolution from Gibson about the headpipe. After some exhaustive research and restudying the installation instructions, I came to the conclusion that there is more than one headpipe that fits our trucks. The one that does not come with the kit is the one that is illustrated in the instructions, and that is the one that fits my truck. You do have to move the pipe hanger forward to the other position (already provided in the frame) for this headpipe to work. It is really simple to do, just two bolts. Once this was done, everything lined up really well and looked right. I had the same problem with the 69210 SS system. They are sending me the alternate SS headpipe that we worked out on the 9210 kit. That really should be the end to this saga. The instructions do not speak of the need to move the hanger, so I am thinking that for some trucks, you may not have to. The alternate headpipe is bent the same as the one supplied, but it is 1/2" shorter on the muffler end, which for me, gives a little better spare tire clearance- no need for any other modifications other than maybe bending the hangers a bit.
