As stated before a crate is easy to strap to your tie downs and gives your dog protection from the elements. That's pretty good.

Ruff Tough Kennels makes a really sturdy dog crate, with an optional tie down kit that can bolt on. They are made in South Dakota.

Most pet stores carrier the plastic and wire versions.
Tie down straps are a must...a friend got into an accident and the dogs and crates went flying. Thankfully no dogs got injured.
I have also seen where people have used their welding skills and made there own to fit their needs.
