Aww, there you guys go again making me think of a tune. I am still very, very apprehensive about getting a tune for my brand-new FX4 5.0 Screw. I've read many posts about tunes, but I'm just leery of doing anything in the event something bad happens - whatever that might be - and then being left out to hang if there is a warranty issue. I wouldn't be doing anything else to the engine, no other engine mods than a tune. No CAI, no exhaust mods, nothing. Just a tune. Maybe one day!

Dead thread, I know. But have a question. I mostly run an Economy 87 tune. My wife drives the truck mostly. Switched it to a Perf/Tow 87 tune and love it, but the exhaust has started "popping" , for lack of a better term, when gas is let off and the truck begins to coast. Is that bad? Should I be concerned?

Wouldn't sweat it at all. Changes to spark advance and fueling on deceleration can cause that sound. To make it stop popping like that would likely involve changes to the tune that might hurt fuel economy.

So would it be safe to say that I would be pleased with a Superchips 1840 for my 2013 F-150 EcoBoost FX4 with AFE Intake and Cat Back Exhaust?

Rather than going for a custom tuner like SCT?

Thanks!!

Alex

SCT is the most popular tuner for Ecoboost out there IMO

Review after running the PHP tune for a while on my 5.0 is the throttle response is a big improvement and with improved shifting. But the torque converter keeps disengaging wright before the 3-4, 4-5 and 5-6 up shift under normal driving conditions, they did a revise program and it helped a little, but still aggregating enough to remove while they figure out to do a program to resolve the converter issue.
Been waiting a while and decided to give MPT a try and the first couple of tunes they sent me had the same converter issue, but they resolved the converter issue in a few days. MPT has a tune with great throttle response and nice transmission shifting for the 5.0 and great customer service.

I would rather have a custom tune but I like the idea of being able to change the tune when I want. So with that said I'm looking at the MPT and the 5-star tune both using the sct device. Both sound good and MPT has a dyno result showing good numbers. Anyone have experience with ether one or both?
