I'm wanting to put a cold air intake on my 2011 ecoboost, but i've read it could cause problems with the turbos in the long run. People have said since the cold air intakes are cleaned and an oil is reapplied each time, the oil can get sucked into the turbos and screw it up. The last thing I would want to do is replaced a $3,000 dollar turbo for a $250 dollar intake which may or may not give me extra HP. Anyone have one installed without issues?

You already have a cold air intake. the factory system will far outflow the engine.

All an aftermarket CAI does is create more noise, usually decrease efficiency, and lighten your wallet.

None have been proven to make HP. Save your money for a tune.

I am also wondering g the same thing. I'll be getting 2015 ecoboost. My first guess would be their should not be enough oil on the filters for it to get sucked all the way to the turbos.

I appreciate the advise and will forgo the AI. I wanted a tuner as well and thought about getting a Livernois!

Yeah a lot of studies show the intake pulls more then the Eco needs. You can get a dry system to not worry about oiling the turbos. There is a drop in dry you can try. I had on my 2011 and bought one for my 2015, just waiting to make sure no problems and will put in when original filter is done.

Not sure I understand the purpose of a CAI for a boosted engine?

I don't believe the factory intake is really that restrictive and with the intercooler the charge air should already be relatively cool. I have not done an exhaustive search but I can't find any dyno reports of a stock vs CAI test. They all seem to be with a tune and 91 octane fuel. Now that being said you may want larger intake with a tune to get the most from it. I would love to see test of stock with factory intake vs stock with intake alone no tune or stock with exhaust and no tune. I also don't think a CAI with oiled filters could hurt the turbos unless the filter was way over oiled. However I'm still new to the ecoboost world.

If you're getting enough oil to the turbo to screw it up I'd say yeah you're putting way too much.
