Default vibration

Which Airaid do you have? I had the opportunity to drive my truck without resonator several weeks before I installed the CAI. It sounded good without the resonator, just a little deeper tone. Vibration is coming from the air box,i'm sure. I can feel it in the ball of my feet. Only at partial to wide open throttle. Very loud in the cab. I can only imagine what it's going to be like when pulling my trailer in the mountains.
Think I will try some things and then call Airaid if I need to.

Guess they won't ship one to a California residents?? Any one in CA. have this problem?
Unless K & N has paid for the certification in the last 6 months, their CAIs are not CARB compliant. Airaid's High Performance system is. You must decide- I rather doubt that someone will not sell a kit to you because you live in Cali. However, I will say that the Airaid kit comes with a certification label that you are supposed to put in your engine compartment. Something to think about.

I have the 400-299 system. From my research, the only difference is the filter- yours is washable (dry) Synthamax and mine is oiled Synthaflow. I do not use the dust sock. Other than that I do not know what else to suggest. Good luck!! One last thought- not to insult your intelligence, here goes- are you sure everything is installed correctly? I ask this because I had my system installed in about a half-hour, and I have never heard a whisper from it, even above 4000 RPM. I am wondering if maybe the housing is hitting the hood?? I have read a couple of other guys' reports where they felt vibration in the dashboard, but I have had no such experience. If you want to send some pics, I can compare the installation to mine. If I see any differences, I'll send pics back.

Thank-You,
I will take some pic's today. I actually took the intake tube back off and inspected after I first drove it. Thought there might be some packing, bubble rap, in the tube!!It felt and sounded that bad!! I also installed the Carb compliant label next to the veci label, under the hood.
The upper air box touches the hood pad, on two sides, where the insulation moulding is installed. I can see the outline in the pad when hood is opened. I don't believe the lower box is secured very well from factory and vibrates when that big filter is suckin air, throttle open. Can't believe yours is quiet? This drone in the cab overwhelms the radio. You think this could be exhaust back pressure? I have stock rear muffler and resonator bypass pipe. I am worried that the vibration may damage the maf sensor eventually.

Here some pic's of my CAI. I talked with Airaid and they explained that the factory intake tube had resonators/chambers built in to it to make it quieter. They said the factory tube could be connected to the air box. Anyway, not sure what I will do. Maybe shoulds have bought the Junior kit.

contact pattern of intake weatherstrip

lower air box hangs on left fender and also supports coolant reservoir. Their is movement at rt. forward corner.I don't believe there is any support brackets underneath.

tube has clearance on all sides

Your installation looks exactly like mine. Please note the orientation of the rubber seal.

regor64- What is that gray thing in the picture of the air box on the RF corner? I looked for movement on the RF corner- very small amount of flex, no real movement in my opinion.

I didn't cut my weatherstrip maybe I should? Anyway I will see if I can get weather-strip to seal outward instead of inward?I seem to have more contact, on hood pad, then yours does. The upper box was loose where it attached to lower box, bale clips seemed loose and tabs loose at opposite end.
So, the light gray is foam weatherstrips that I installed at both ends of box before clipping shut.
I believe I have changed the vibration and that it is from the lower box. If I am right, a pad under the lower box may help a-lot. I believe it's the right, passenger, front corner that vibrates. Wish I could operate throttle from engine compartment and watch the air cleaner work! Like the old days.

The reason that my seal is cut is because I bought my cai used. If I had purchased it new, I would not have cut the seal because the installation shows it as being installed in one piece. The air box adaptor fit just fine on my truck, no issues. That may be why you have the extra contact on the hood. Did you try to arc outward on the clips a little to tighten the adaptor to the lower air box so that you would not have to shim it?
