Default Jlt RAI

I've had my truck for a while and have just a K&N Cone filter and Flowmaster Duel Exhaust. I was looking at the JLT Ram Air Filter and have never seen anything like it for the F150. Have you guys heard or read anything about it?

This one gets my vote. My dad has the JLT on his Mustang GT. Got close to 25hp with it according to the tuner on 89 octane. A little more with the 91 octane tune.

This unit doesn't look like the JLT in the Mustang, but I like the "ram air" setup for this unit, the price is right (185) and I LOVE the JLT on dads Mustang. Gains were as advertised so I don't doubt them on the the F150 unit either.

Added an AF1 intake and noticed a difference in the throttle response and about a one mpg increase. Sounds cool when you jump on the gas! This is definitally a top notch system and noone who gets one of these will be disappointed.

It is not a true ram air unless there is the corresponding hood with a closed system.

Default Customize Hood

That is my only concern as well. I was thinking though, with the location of the filter in the center of the hood, I could do some custom work to the hood. I was going to see if I could add a hood scoop(http://www.yourhotcar.com/prod/Stree...-72126/582212/) then cut a hole in the hood and build a box under the filter that met with the hood. That way I would create an actual ram air intake for my truck. In my head I don't see why this would not work, I would just need the money.

I emailed JLT asking about the tuner in relation to my truck, but I also asked them what the perforamce gains would be on a stock engine with dual exhaust. They said that you would see 10-12 rw hp and 1 mpg. they also said that the filter does not come with the tuner, but that would help with performance quite a bit.

read the fine print on the "ram(hot) air" kit. In town driving causes a 20 degree increase in intake temps....if that still doesnt push you away from mr tuckers kit, its because you want it for the name. Next, it NEEDS a tune, the net effect of the design does not lend itself to smooth and laminar flow. We all know that hot air rises, with that, the MAF sensor will see a skewed charge temp since it is nothing more than a fancy thermostat. Also, a hotter charge will exacerbate the issue because it will just stay hot, there is no condition that will result in a reduction of charge temps. Mr Tucker seems to do a very good job of marketing his product as long as you do not read ANY of the fine print.

I too believed that his products were top notch many years ago when I explained to him that i want to run his intake tube on my 'bird....which happens to be using an OEM Ford 80mm MAF and OEM Mustang GT intake tube and air box. I received a rather negative email from him stating that his product will in no way at all fit on my car and to not bother purchasing it....seems to me like he enjoys catering to certain niche publications that will test his products.....and his marketing is quite effective, especially when he gets certain website mass marketing.

Default new info

After hearing that, I might just go ahead and stick with the K&N FIPK package I was looking at previously. It is a little bit pricier, but K&N is a trusted brand and I know exactly what I am getting and that it will work well.

Well that makes me sad, kinda. I do think I could make the "ram air" work by pulling air through the front baffles and sealing it to the hood. No scoop to worry about water, etc. The tuner doesn't bother me much as I think that is a good idea anyway. I will say, however, that I do like the gains on dads Mustang and that is probably what I will buy for the Stang. May just go with the K&N unit or the "build your own" from O'reillys on the F150.
