Air Vent P.I.M.P. LED's walkthrough
Alright i'm writing this due to popular demand. I recently was inspired by ford2004F150 on f150online.com and purchased 2 of the Liteglow Evil Eye 7-color LED packs for something like 12 dollars each plus shipping. While no I havn't coordinated them together, i mainly have them on solid colors anyway. Due to wire size restrictions you cannot stretch the wires to reach all of the vents with one kit. This does have its benefits due to the fact that I put two LED's in each vent, which definitely increased the light output.
Process:
PREP:Remove the air vents by pulling on them and paint with "chrome" spraypaint on the inside of them. This will reflect the light better. If I recall correctly I used Krylon.
1. Remove the dash (easy job to find instructions for on this site). You have to first push the ashtray and pull out the wood panel. Then you can access the two middle airvents.
2. Pull off the side panels in the front door jambs. This is done by opening the door and using the holes in the panels to pull them out.
3. Drill 2 holes in each vent, then place the LED's in. Not sure on bit size but you can size them up pretty easily by feel.
4. Find power...This was a challenge for me, so I decided to wire in two radioshack accessory power outlets onto the dash-top shelf. I used wiring straight off of the battery to do this.
THE LIGHTS PLUG INTO CIGARETTE LIGHTER PLUGS AND NOT JUST 12V.
This was why I did the lighter plugs in the first place.
5. Route all the wires cleanly and locate the control boxes where you please. I put them on the top of the shelf with the power outlets.
VERY EASY JOB I encourage you to try it!
