Default Used edge evo?

If I buy a used edge evolution from a friend with just the regular canned tunes that have already been used, will it still work on my truck?

Considering what is at stake, I wouldn't buy a used tuner if my life depended on it unless it was recertified from the maker and came with some type of guarantee. Too many variables that can render your truck a lawn ornament.

^^^Why? If he can verify it was set back to stock, then update it via Edge's web-site before installing it, it should be fine. He is buying it from a friend, not a total stranger on CL in a parking lot.

Edge doesnt limit the amount of vehicles their programmers can be used on like SCT does. So to the OP, it will work just fine with the canned tunes.

My truck cost $30,000, I am not about to take any chances with so much on the line. If you or the op like to gamble by all means do so but I wont.

Taking enough of a chance just messing with oem programming and yes I am tuned but I can also turn back the clock so to speak with as built data should something require warranty repair.

A replacement PCM costs $300....to say a programmer will ruin your 30K truck is comical. I have been tuned for the last 15 years on 3 different trucks. 2 with used programmers. Never a single issue.

Back to the OP question, you will be fine with the canned tunes.

Just the part^ now consider a tow truck to get it to the dealer to do the programming on the new pcm, $100 tow, $100 labor for programming, were tipping the scales @ $1,000.00 to take a chance on a used programmer.

I have already stated I am tuned (LOVE IT) but I also have the backing of the company that sold it to me (NEW).

With everything considered is it worth the chance considering a new tuner is only $400? I suppose it's subjective but I'm not willing to just holler "Hell yeah go for it" when so much can be lost.

Reminds me of.... "Hey y'all watch this" <--usually doesn't end well.

Long as your friend put his truck back to stock OEM tune, then it should be unmarried and work just fine for you. Just as summer said, just make sure it's updated with the free edge software before you load it on your truck. Depending which model he has, should show as level zero if it was put back to factory tune. And that being said, a tune literally is just a computer file, it's gonna work exactly the same whether used or new when talking preloaded devices like edge.

Well damn, I should have bought a used tuner then. What motivation is there to buy new?

Manufacturer warranty on the tuning device itself usually. But again, that's talking about using a preloaded device type tuner like Edge.

In your case, you have custom tunes which are completely different since built for your specific vehicle and mods level and also the peace of mind with the warranty on the tune itself for what you have ( Stage 3 tune if I recall with the warranty ) .

That in of itself, is well worth it for some folks which is understandable.
