Default 3" single exhaust. muffler or no muffler?

ive decided to go with a 3" T309 Stainless exhaust on my truck (04 f-150 5.4), it will be mandrel bent too, all done by a local shop. my only issue is im not sure if its worth the extra $$ to buy a stainless muffler or just run without one. I am looking for a good bark with a nice raspy tone. i do not like any chambered muffler though. ive been looking at the magnaflow magnapack, but not sure what that will do for sound. I cant find any videos with just single exhaust, i already tried. and i love the sound of borla also... but their $100+ usually. maybe just run a straight pipe for now and if i dont like that, then have a muffler slipped in?

Like you said, have them run a straight pipe for now, if you dont like it you can have a mufler put on later.

Im doing a single exhaust.

Headers 1-3/4" primarys to 3" collectors, no cats Y'ed into a 4" maggie with a 4" turn down. The Y's duel 3" In 4" Out

If your going with cats no I wouldn't use a muffler. But if your running no cats I would defenantly run a muffler.

had the straight pipe ran yesterday. it sounds like a high dollar magnaflow system. its sweet. the 3" pipe really helps cancel out soundwaves and produce a nice deep tone

I have an 02 f-150 5.4L and I have been messing with exhaust for so long on my truck until I finally found that sound I loved. 3" pipe to a 4" tip turned out before the rear wheel on the passenger side with no muffler. Sounds great to me. A little loud while pullin a trailer, but still sounds sweet. Luckily I have done all the exhaust work myself in our shop so it didnt cost me $$ to experiment. Thats just my opinion.

Thanks,

ended up with just a 3" straight mandrel bend system. sounds great. very similar to borla/magnaflow. not very loud either, i actually wish it was louder sometimes. i may get the rear cats cut out
