I took mine off and had them paint matched along with my grill surround.

No tools...just a bit of finess with your hands. Place the heal of your hand against the front side of the mirror just below where the cap is separate from the bulk of the mirror. Your fingers will be wrapped around the top of the cap so that they are pushing the top of the cap down a bit. (You'll feel the cap flex a bit). Then kind of just squeeze and pull. Don't be scared to give them a good tug...but keep in mind...the clips are just plastic so that's where the finess part comes in. I drove around for a week without them and no grill while they were at the paint shop but as you can see...it was well worth it.

Good luck and thanks for the compliment

This guy uses a screw driver and brakes the plastic tabs...but it basically shows you how they come apart.

You should take the mirror apart properly. Those plastic tabs that hold the cap on the mirror are not that strong and will snap easy. On you tube you will find some videos on how to take them apart. Pretty easy to pop the mirror glass off then it's 4 screws. And everything comes off properly. Good luck.
