I would definitely recommend head studs, but it requires removal of the cab or motor for install. The shop has been a little backed up and I should be hearing back tomorrow to know exactly all I'll be ordering so I'll make sure to keep everyone updated

Well the results are in and the motor is a total loss. Cylinder heads are done, shattered two pistons, bent at least one rod and have a nice little hole in one of the cylinders. After Christmas I'll be calling up livernois for stroker motor, ported heads and custom cams. I'll post pictures of the carnage when I get home.

The shop its at think they may be able to save the heads, but I'm pretty sure they've lost their minds. I definitely wasn't looking to spend the money, but I guess I have to now

Judging by the pic it appears the piston couldn't handle the increased torque and you had piston slap causing the piston to break loose from the wrist pin...

Agreed on the head salvage...they did lose their minds and personally going by route of a Livernois is a great idea. Good luck!

crap-ola mang! I can feel your pain though. I purchased a motor a couple years back sight unseen. Got it here and found it was blown. Spent another 2k rebuilding it but the good news it is better now than it ever was.

you're kidding right? that's purely a detonation issue. i'll show you many of 3.8s i popped due to 1*KR that was a little too late. and all the was left was a rod + pin. hypereutectic pistons can only take so much **** on ****ty gas or a bad tune.
