Default Bed size question

I am looking at getting into a Raptor after my lease is up on my 2015 (end of May 2018). My question is pretty simple. I really want a 6.5 foot bed and have noticed only a 5.5 foot bed on the Raptor.

Does anyone know if they will be offering a 6.5 foot bed in 2018?

I have never had a 5.5 foot bed only the 8 foot then the 6.5 foot (which took me a long time to get used to).

I don't believe they will. The 1st Gen Raptors all had 5.5' beds as well.
I've never had a 5.5' bed either, so this will be a first for me.

Nice truck. I guess I am going to have to get used to a smaller bed again.

I wish they would.

It will never be offered. Its hard enough to do the tooling changes for 1 style of raptor box outers. Also, 6.5' box crew is a longer frame, meaning ford would have to design the longer frame to match the beefed up Raptor version, money that will never be spent

Well this truck is designed for offroad use, and a long bed affects affordability negatively. Hell I think the Crew Cab thing was against the Raptor vision originally but they saw the extraordinary demand for it. (probably 5 crew cabs sold for every extended cab). Crew Cab while probably hurting the "offroadability" a bit was the best thing Ford for Raptor sales. Long bed I dont see helping much at all (small market of people will actually use this truck like a contractor)

Why can't they have a crew cab 5.5' bed and a super cab 6.5' bed sharing the same frame?

I don't think you've seen what the frame looks like. It doesn't work that way unfortunately.

I always scratch my head when I hear people say stuff like this. You certainly don't need to be a contractor to want a 6.5 bed. I currently have a 6.5, and wish I had an 8 (Yeah, I know...next time I'll order my truck). Just normal everyday life often calls for a bed bigger than 5.5.

In any case, I'm quite sure that there are thousands, maybe even hundreds of thousands of truck buyers out there who would never entertain the idea of getting a truck...any truck....with a tiny, baby bed. I might as well get a Toyota Tacoma. LOL
