I haven't seen a single thing hinting at another engine choice. As Obiefox said, keep dreaming lol

i agree that people may go to a company selling what they want. However MOST people now a days are looking for 1 of 2 things or maybe both. Either Fuel economy or HP/TQ. not alot of people are looking just for the sound anymore. That being said if a v6 is putting out more hp/tq than the competitors v8 why would someone switch? thats the way i look at it atleast.

In the 70's, you didn't have V6 motors making more power than the V8's. You also didn't have the EPA running the industry.

EPA has been a PITA for a long time. They had a lot to do with the changes in the 70's as well. A lot of people still don't trust the boosted V6's. I haven't heard about it as much with the Ford's, but I know the Hyandia's and a few other have had big issues with blowing turbos. Wife's friend just replaced the 2 on her SUV and it was $7000. I've heard the same about a few other companies. Even if Ford isn't one of them, they still get the same skepticism.

Boosted engines are way more expensive. The video were they made the 2013 EcoRaptor stated that they bought an Eco instead of a Raptor as the base, because the Eco engine was $11000 from Ford. So it was cheaper to turn an Eco truck into a Raptor, than it was to but a Raptor and swap engines. My replacement V8 from Ford was $4500.

Regardless of people "trusting" them or not, it's trending that way. 70% of F150's sell with a V6 and 60% are turbo. That percentage may increase for 2017 with the Raptor/Eco combo. Ford borrowed big money from the Feds to re-tool and invest in "green" solutions. They seem to be stuck on the turbo train for the foreseeable future. Every vehicle in the Ford lineup has a turbo option (HD's are Diesel obviously), some that used to offer v8's (see explorer), no longer have the option.
GM is rumored to be putting the Turbo V6 from the Caddy in their half ton. Dodge...well Dodge is behind the 8-ball as usual.

Some will never accept change and that's fine as it's their money. I'm sure there will be V8 options for quite some time. But over the coming years, they will likely be part of a limited package or cost a premium as we get further and further forced into lower emission vehicles. When they stop selling new (if they ever do), there will be plenty of used. To be honest, I can't see the current EcoBoost truck options cutting the EPA mustard either, 2021 is going to be a tough year for all the manufacturers.

Tasca Pricing
5.0 engine is $5500
3.5 Eco is $5100
Turbos are $425 x 2 = $850

the 3.5 eco is a badass engine. v8's are nice but they just are not needed with todays technology.
literally the only thing i will miss is the sound. i have a 2013 taurus SHO with the ecoboost 3.5, its a great engine with gobs of power and with a tune its a blast to drive. i can't imagine what the raptor will be like when i get it. going to be a long couple months.
i can get over the exhaust note, it reminds me of my 2nd car 91 dodge stealth TT. sounded exactly the same.

people will get over it when the trucks actually get released and people can drive them, they will see how fun it will be with the ecoboost engine making all its TQ down low and have 10 gears to keep it in its power band.

Anyone ever seen the movie, "The Dilemma" with Kevin James and Vince Vaughn? Remember what their task was in the movie? Their job was to make a loud V8 sound and the feel come out of an electric car. Why do I bring this up? Because, this may just happen in the future to V6's and 4 cylinders.

This is the clip.

I honestly think the EPA rags are gonna have to get pushed back timeline wise. It wouldn't be the 1st time. People just aren't buying the number of small super economical cars in high enough numbers for manufacturers to meet that goal.

Look at the Chevy Volts, at least near me, they had huge markdowns, like $20K off, and still had problems selling them. I had a hybrid and hated that car. As soon as I paid it down enough to not be upside down when I sold it, I got rid of it.
