Default Transmission Issue: Need advice

I have a 2007 5.4L automatic, and all of a sudden my transmission is starting to have problems. I have 74k miles on my truck and here are the symptoms.

When cruising in traffic around 1k to 1.5k rpm when the truck shifts it kicks. You can feel the clutch engaging. I am going to have a shop run the computer through the system but I also do not want to have to pay out the ***** for something that doesn't need to be fixed

Has anyone else experienced this or have any advice on what needs to be fixed. I am by no means a gear head but I change my own oil, brakes, the simpler stuff I can handle. I have plenty of transmission fluid so I know that is not the problem. Any help or advice is appreciated.
