i bought the truck about 3 months ago. i come from a chevy family and dont know a whole lot about fords. but compare a 99 or 00 f150 to a 99 or 00 silverado as far as price and youll see why i wanted one. i bet i drove 10 trucks just like what i bought, but most with 4.6's. i wasnt impressed with most on power, but when i drove the one i got now, it was a big difference in the 4.6 and the 5.4. but anyway, the truck holds good oil pressure, gets 15 or 16mpg, and is the stongest f150 ive ever driven and i worked at a carlot that sold several (drove almost all of em). the noise sound like a light knock or chatter, it has the passenger side exhaust leak and maybe that is what im hearing. but it really sounds like the bottom end of the engine.
i gave 6000 for the truck, its 99 extcab lariat, 4x4, leather tow packge, it has about 146000 miles on it. it has had any problems but i didnt notice the noise when i bought the truck. im pleased with the truck and was just wanting to know if these engine were noisy by nature like what i hear or if i need to get ready for some engine work.

My 01 5.4 isn;t noisy at all. You may have an exhaust leak. Take it to a muffler shop & have them look at it to see. Bottom end engine noise is a distinct sound, typically not light chatter or knock. If it is a solid knock, then worry.. Keep your oil changed and sell it. lol

A chevy is a woman's car or a family car
A Ford is working man's truck, his toy, ya know?

Seriously 146,000 is nothing in my opinion for a Ford
