Hi Everyone, i have a 2000 f150 5.4 and i am replacing my passenger side exhaust manifold, so far i havent broken any studs i have one more left soaking in PB, but my problem is the studs on the flange, the nuts are strip and i was wondering if there is a tool that is used on the non-threaded end of this exhaust flange stud? i added a pic for viewing. thxs

Hey guys i got my exhaust manifold off,and i have 3 studs left in the cylinder head they are sticking out alittle more than 1/2 inch out of the head. i tried pb blaster (which helped greatly with the other studs), heat from a propane torch (how long cani leave the torch on before i start warping the head- i didnt 1 minute), using stud extractors (the kind you hammer on then use a socket to twist out the stud) and no luck the extractor just slips off and starts stripping the stud grooves down. they a pretty rusted in there, any ideas on what else i can try to get them out? thxs

If you have good threads, try the jam nut technique. I was able do that on 1 of mine. 2 I welded a nut on the end and then they came out. I had to drill and tap 2 others.

The only way I was able to get mine out was to weld a nut on the end, this method seemed the easiest and most effective by far. As well as previous soaks with KROIL.
