5.8 hesitates when wet outside

Default 5.8 hesitates when wet outside

i have a 95 f150 with a 5.8. it has 80k miles on it. what would make it hesitate when you hit the gas. it only does it when it rains or snows. any ideas???

Well I am gonna throw some ideas out seeing as no one else has. If it is only when it is wet out then it probalby something electrical I would guess that it would be the throttle position sensor. Like I said nothins been put up so I figure id give ya somethin to check out.

probably spark plug wires...or cap and rotor.. more than likely its spark plug wires

Easy way to check for bad wires is have the truck running at night and open the hood and take a look around all of your wires and look for them jumping spark.

or take a spray bottle and spray the spark plug cables while its running and if it starts to run rough buy new ones

I've got a '95 Bronco with the 5.8 and it has a similar issue. It doesn't like to start after its been driven in hard rain or trying to start in high humidity.

I've found that its a poor seal in the distributor cap that allows moisture to build up in there causing poor spark. Dry out the distributor and cap then re-apply some electric grease.

You might also want to check out your map sensor, sometimes they go bad while still sending a signal, However at that point they no longer adjust to changes in humidity.

thanks, it was the distributor cap. it runs great, now i can go play in the snow again!!!
