Issue: Is your F-150’s engine idling loudly?
The eight cylinder engines are notorious for this due to the cam phasers. For the unaware, cam phasers are responsible for adjusting the camshaft position to improve fuel injection into the cylinders, which leads to better fuel efficiency when idling and the ability to draw power from the engine more quickly. However, after anywhere from 60,000-100,000 miles, they also cause rough, loud idling due to wear and tear.
While the cause can typically be linked to the cam phasers, solutions to the problem vary widely. Some of the top recommendations include:

- While the noise is annoying, the cam phaser itself isn’t actually breaking. If you can live with it, your F-150 will be fine.
- If the truck is under warranty, bring it to the dealership.
- It’s possible they may need to either replace the cam phasers, or even the cam phasers and camshaft as well.
- Install a coil spring behind each cam phaser to reduce the rattle as it moves.
- Swap the cam phasers from a larger engine so that it sits more tightly, reducing the rattle.

That is the exact guide I used for the Fuel pump driver module replacement. It is accurate. I had to break the module off with a crow bar first and then remove the two bolts because the bolts had fused to the module. After that the bolts came out easily. It is a less than 30 minute project. Rock Auto has the part.

Hello all,
I've too been bitten with the noisy cam phaser bug. I've heard things from leave them alone, other than being noisy there is nothing wrong, to change them out before the engine blows. Very confusing to know what to do, especially for an expensive repair for somebody like me who isn't the most mechanically inclined person.
I've also read many bad reviews on the phasers on Amazon that they are breaking soon after they have been installed. Likewise it sounds like this whole thing is caused by a problem with the OEM phasers so how is a guy to know what are the right ones to buy if we are going to attempt the replacement ourselves? For those of you that are doing your own repairs, where are you buying the replacements from? (preferably those that can be bought or shipped to Canada0
Any advice any body can give would be greatly appreciated.

Do not cheap out and buy DORMAN phasers. They fail. Pay the extra and use Ford Phasers. part 3R2Z-6A257-DA Camshaft sensor Kit. Comes with bolt also.Order them on line . Cheaper than dealer price. I paid $450 canadian for 1.
