Default 400M/460 swap

Hi guys

Does the 460 and the 400m have the same bell housing pattern and engine mount location? I am looking to do a swap on my 78 f150. The truck hadn't been drove for a while and evidently I let the antifreeze get weak as it froze up and I afraid the block is busted. I have a 460 that my father in law swapped into his 75 F250. My truck is in much better shape than his (plus it was my grand dads). I know they had to fabricate engine mounts for the 460 to work in his truck. I always wanted to put a 300 six in my truck but then my FIL's truck/460 came available. I am looking to keep my c6 verse the 4 speed behind it now.

Thx for any advice!

Granted its been a while since I worked on these , I think the 400m your referring to is a 351m/400 , if that is the case , I think it may be, I dont think they match up. The 351m was basicly a 351 block with 400 heads. And if I remember correctly, I had to get a new bell housing for a 73' F100 I was gonna put one in. It too had the 460 , and I was going back in with a 351m/400. Hope this info helps.

Hi Dan

I know it isn't the correct designation to call the 400 a 400m, but yes, that is what I was referring to.

Thanks for the info, I believe my scheme will need to be altered!
Hank
