I have a couple 4.6 V8's... My favorite is an '01 F150... It has 191,000 miles on it doesn't use or leak a bit of oil. The other is in a '96 Cobra Mustang with almost 150,000 miles. Same story. But what a power house!

My neighbour is a mechanic for the Toronto Police. They have run nothing but Fords since 1992. He said that they run those 4.6l for well over 200 000 km’s (120 000mi) and only pull them out of service if the cost for a repair out is more than the current value of the car. Plus they have idle meters well north of 6000 hours (clock only runs in park or neutral) on the engine. I think 30h idling is equal to about 800mi (1200kms). That sounds pretty tough to me.

Tell them Chevy boys to read the most current issue of Car Craft. They talk about the end of the Panther Platform (aka Crown Vics). In that article, they talk to the maintenance department for a local PD, where they learn the cars are retired at 150K miles (yet the cars are nowhere near worn out). One PD even bought a ton of CrownVics, since the line is ending and they aren't sure how they'll like (or the longevity) of the new offerings from the Big 3.

I now have a 93 z28 camaro with 205k miles, 2nd gear is gone out of the 4l60. How nice is that? But I cant complain for the price I picked it up for..800 bucks on the spot.
But I would still drive my 4.6 over that camaro even if it had a brand new lt1 or ls1..I hate to say it but my truck gets better gas mileage..my f150 gets 25 miles to a gallon. And dont ask me how.

I had a 2000 Mustang GT with 4.6L V8 I sold back in 2005 with 134k miles and it ran stronger than the day I 1st bought it. As long as you keep up the maintenance and you dont beat the pi$$ out of it, it will go forever.

Forgot if it was a 4.6 or not, but a friend has a f150 from the 90's with 305,000 miles on it, but the only good i can say is that it runs, but not to well at idle.
