4.9 to replace 5.0
Ihave a 1996 f150 4.9 5sp, and would like to install the six in place of a 5.0 in a 1989 auto truck. the wiring harness on the six will not connect up to older truck that had the 5.0 litre.what can I do? Do I need a 6 cyl harness for the older truck? can i use the 5.0 harness? Thx in advance.

You have a big problem. That is getting an OBDII engine to work in an OBDI truck. They make an adapter kit to do this with a V8 but I can not find one for a 4.9L engine. The kit for the V8 costs $695 dollars This is to bad the 4.9L and with the 5 speed is a sweet combination. But getting it running will be a King Kong PIA. It would be easier, and cheaper, just to find a 1996 F150 with a crap engine and install the engine in it, better yet just spend your money on another later model F150 with a sweet running 4.9L
