Default 2.7 engine

Hello, I just bought a SuperCab 4X2 with the 2.7 and will put about 25k highway miles a year on it. Should this motor do ok on dependability and gas miles. Is this a 200k plus engine if taken care of like my 4.6 Triton was.
Thanks in advance...

you'll go way passed 300k at 25k a year no problem.

What standards did they test the 5.4 to?

my 5.4 has over 200k and runs like new. So I'll assume the same 300k

Well, my 2015 2.7 just blew out the lower end with 23k miles. This was perfectly maintained and not abused in any way. Just happened on Monday so waiting for root cause still.

This is very disappointing. In 30 years of driving I have never had an engine failure. I am hoping this is just a case of a defect and not a sign of the longevity of this engine.

I noticed some weird surging at idle over the weekend. I was driving home from work on Monday and there was a sudden loss of power and a loud knocking sound coming from the engine. There was never any smoke, no oil loss and the engine never stopped running. Very odd indeed.

extremely unusual. Bottom ends are usually bulletproof. Well at least it failed before your warranty was up.

If I had to guess, they weren't very high, I've driven 5 of them over the years and they ALL had major engine problems.
