I have a 2015 with a 3/6 drop. Bought a slam air kit from Air Lift but it is too short and I want 5k bags instead of 2k to pull my heavy 30' boat. Anyone have any suggestions ? I'm pretty sure I'm going to need to fab up my own kit. Thank you

a boat is normally not that heavy on the hitch.

2K is plenty to way way over the axle max weight!

I was towing my toyhauler that had between 700 to 1000 on the hitch and the slam air kit was fine.

I'm now bagged with the equivalent of 5K bags(SS8) and have no issue to tow my toyhauler and other trailer.(neer need to go over 170psi and bag can take up to 200)..don't forget: I don't have leaf spring anymore!

Thank you for your input. Comforting to hear that your truck tows well my boat gassed up with trailer is almost 9k lbs and although the tongue weight is usually about 15 % , I wanted to go " overkill" for a piece of mind. It would be my luck to blow out a bag on a hot day with all my family in the truck lol

If your bags aren't rubbing they won't blow. Look at semis they run a million miles and no issues.

Air shocks won't support the weight that I'm going to be towing. .. But thank you for your input

I see your point but the Slam Air kit I tried, was close to shock enough to be a concern. Another concern is stretching bag apart when truck was on lift with the weight unloaded. I could get a longer bag, or make a plate that would make it in a higher position buy still stuck with 2k lb bags. Found a kit that uses 5k bags over axil that could be modified if things go as planned ") Gonna find out as soon as it shows up ...

Here's a pic of Slam air kit. .. you'll notice what my concerns are. ..

That is close but your bags should have no side to side movement. My other truck is layed out with 2600# dominators out back and they are close to rubbing but don't. They've been that way for about 10 years now. The small bags are a pain in the *** on a lift, he'll even just a floor jack and there all stretched out.

You could add a strap from the axle to the frame to help stop the bag stretch when in the air. Kinda like the hydro guys do to keep the stroke of the cylinder in check.

I was thinking about doing that. . I'm putting on Calvert Racing Caltracs on soon and I'm hoping that may help a little. Seems like they did on my black truck... Thanks for your help !
