cutting springs homemade shackles??
Where I live everyone and their momma go to this local shop and have their truck lowered. Ford, Chevy, Dodge, etc. $550 and the dude cuts your front springs and relocates your leaf springs and and makes homemade shackles.
My cousin had his gmc sierra lowered there over 2yrs ago and has had no problems. My cousin, that is not too familiar with lowering trucks says it's a 2/4 drop. It's not. It's alot lower but it's been running fine for over 2yrs.
I went and talked to the shop and told him I wanted a 3/5 drop and he suggested against it saying it would ride like crap. He's showed me, with his hands how low he could get it and it was as much if not more than a 3/5 and he called it a 2/4.
Umm, your thoughts here please.

Cutting springs isn't a great idea. Lots of people do it but that doesn't make it correct. Drop springs for the front are fairly cheap, $150-$300 typically.
As for the rear you can get a set of drop hangers from Autozone(around here at least) for $35.
That would be a 2-3 drop for under $300 typically if you do the work and it is all easy as hell!
I wouldn't have the springs cut no matter what and if this guy doesn't know the difference between 2/4 and 3/5 then I would skeptical that his is a quality fabricator to be tearing into your truck.
Post pictures of your cousin's truck so we can see what his work looks like.

^^Ya I'll do that when I get the chance. It has a real good drop imo.
I'm still new to trucks and from what I know about lowering cars, it's a bad idea. The only reason I'd consider it is because it's been over 2yrs with no problems. That's why I'm asking my fellow ford community for their thoughts/experiences.

Again cutting springs is one of those things that if you know what you are doing it isn't that bad. But it is still cutting corners. The only way to do it is to cut it with cut off wheel so you don't induce too much heat into the spring.
The issue that comes up more often then not is the top and or bottom ring of the coil spring are smaller then the rest. Therfore you can't cut one of the ends off and be good.

Hey Tony, I've seen another 04-08 on here and I believe you said it was a 3.5/5. Can you tell me how much dat kit is and what components are used to get the front to a 3.5? That kit is the closest I've seen to the look I want. I believe it was a djm kit.
I intend to buy f/r shocks as well.
